Port of Salalah and MSC hold Joint Workshop

Port of Salalah and Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC) held a joint workshop to formulate a joint strategy for future vessel calls as well as to improve their existing lines of communications and obtain a better understanding of each other’s business processes. The workshop was held at the MSC planning centre in Sorrento, Italy and attendees coming from as far afield as Geneva, Salalah and Dubai included members of MSC and the ports planning teams, operations staff and commercial the teams. The Port of Salalah team was led by the Operations Manager Mr. Dustin Stoker.

MSC began calling at the Port of Salalah in June 2008 and the workshop was aimed at strengthening the business relationship by learning about each other’s business processes and priorities. Workshop topics included the inception of daily game plan meetings, improving of EDI interfacing & web access, yard strategies and vessel planning.

Mr. Dustin Stoker Operations Manager for Port of Salalah said “I think I speak for all of us from Port of Salalah when I say that the workshop was invaluable in giving us an opportunity to have an open dialogue with MSC. We and MSC now have a valuable insight into each others processes and have agreed on strategies and measures that will streamline the work from both sides and improve on the efficiency and communications”

Mr. Brian Paul, Chief Commercial Officer of Port of Salalah Said “MSC is fairly new to the APM Terminals group. This ties in perfectly at Port of Salalah with an integral part of our strategy for development, which is to understand our customers, not just as a port user but as a business partner with shared goals. We chose to hold a workshop as a forum where the key people involved in the planning and executing of a vessel call would have a chance to share solution based dialogue to better understand each other’s business as well as improve on the existing processes through streamlining of work, problem solving and joint planning”
